Undergraduate Capstone Projects and Graduate Thesis Projects that involve Human Subjects Research will need to coordinate with the IRB. Some notes:
- Check the Review Categories for an overview about what category your project might be in.
- Note that the Educational Research page talks about some types of educational research that may be exempt from review, but that this exemption will never apply to Capstone and Thesis Projects, because these are intended to be publicly shareable.
- Consistent with policies that are common across universities, the "Primary Investigator" on human subjects research must be a qualified professor or staff member and not a student, even if the student is doing most of the work. The PI can be the advisor on your project, or can be someone else. For example, perhaps a project is being done through the Minerva Psychology Lab and the PI is a professor in the Lab. In this case, the PI and your advisor would coordinate with each other (and you) about responsibilities.
